About Our Body Shop

Dings N Things is owned by a second-generation body man  Greg “TC” Mertz and operated by third-generation body man Nic Mertz. Greg’s father, Carl Mertz, ran many shops around the United States including the Volkswagen Porsche body shop which was located on South Glenstone Avenue in Springfield, Missouri. Greg grew up in his fathers’ shop learning the business – beginning with simple tasks such as taping and sanding cars. After learning from his father, he set out to continue his legacy.

In 1977, Mertz decided to  open Mertz and Sons on the corner of Grant and Walnut streets in Springfield. The business was later renamed Top Craft Bodyworks. Other than a short stay in Kansas City, Greg has owned a body shop in Springfield ever since. In 1990, the business moved to its current location at 1912 S. Stewart under the name Dings N Things Specialty Body Works.

Dings N Things offers collision repair on a wide variety of cars. The body shop also does work for many high-end car dealers in the Springfield area. From his father’s Porsche shop to his own, Greg’s paintwork has always satisfied the most demanding of customers.
